I liked this guy. He was a class act. This was my idea of a righteous black man. Too bad the thugs these days didn't try to emulate him. RIP Shepard Book. You will be missed.

Best cop show ever.

Rest in Peace, Ron.

he was a hater which made the TV series even more believable. most people say that Barney Miller was the most true to life cop show on TV. I disagree, but back in the day it beat the fuck out of Dragnet,1-Adam 12, and Hawaii 5-0.

Smoothe as glass like a baby's ass.
Sorry, we don't worship Niggers 'round here.
TN must be under some Federal Communications Directive
To show they provide equal news coverage, the good, the bad.
So far TN is hampered by Geographic location and Demographics.
The lawless Negroes of Chicago City seem to hog the headlines
And a disproportionate amount of real estate on the TN site.
The FCC acknowledges this is an uphill battle and fully supports TN.

Ron had a routine and a superstition much like athletes in the
NFL and MLB. He always washed his own socks by hand, then let
Them air-dry to make them last longer. That way he killed two birds
With one stone: his hands were always clean, and this impressed
Everyone from his director on the set to upper management.
He always was a killer figure on Summer vacation. Black Sup-Hose Over The
Calf length socks matched with white basketball shoes.
Ron, a true gentleman and role model for Negroes of his time.

So that means Issac from the love boat and JJ from good times are next.

Did his character Harris ever finish writing the novel "Blood on The Badge" on Barney Miller? Best cop show tied with the Wire. I also miss Dietrich from Barney Miller. Ron Glass was at his best on the classic episode they all accidentally ate Pot Brownies in the precinct. Good on Firefly & Serenity too. His life partner was the dude who portrayed Luke on General Hospital in the 1980's and wore Members Only Jackets between taking man loads. RIP--Detective Harris/Glass!

CHiPS was far more realistic than any of the programs mentioned above. The only fake thing about the show was the episode where they busted the forest preserve man-goo ring- none of the perps were retired coppers. Sgt. Getraer has got Belly Deep Slough written all over his face.

He was adequate. I personally found him a little too self-consciously pretentious. He got away with demonstrations of unchecked egotism and elitism unmoderated by any sense of irony because he was black.

The best thing about the show was the theme song.

Hebrew Hal Linden was not believable as a world-weary yet still hopeful Italian-American. I found Fishes' constant references to excretion tasteless.

3RD WATCH WAS THE BEST EVER TV SERIES EVER WITH FACTUAL TYPE SITUATIONS AND PEOPLE,,,BEAT THEM ALL...

I recall the episode where Wojo, Barney, and Fish tied up that gook Jack Soo and pounded him in the ass in the broom closet. That was pretty ground-breaking for 1970's TV.

Never saw Third Watch because I stopped watching cop shows decades ago but I heard that one of the writers was once CPD assigned to 020.

That was the few cop shows I really liked. Just as I started getting into it, they canceled it.
