Mount Prospect Police Officer Sgt. Anthony "Big Tony" Lietzow charged with battery to a fellow police officer found not guilty
Anthony Lietzow had faced charges of aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated domestic battery after police were called to his Huntley home last year following a night of drinking and a confrontation with a female relative.
Lietzow, 45, had already pleaded guilty to resisting arrest, but then was allowed to withdraw the plea because he didn't know the conviction would cost him his job.
In doing so, he risked a more serious felony conviction and possible prison time. The risk apparently paid off with his acquittal following a three-day trial, though a Mount Prospect police official said it remains uncertain if the department will still seek his dismissal.
