LIBERAL TRIBUNE HEADLINE: Family man given 2.5 years in prison for laundering drug money for cartel TRUE HEADLINE - Illegal Beaner Alvaro Anguiano Hernandez gets ONLY 2 1/2 years in prison for laundering Mexican Drug Cartel Cash
That image was shattered two years ago when federal narcotics agents boarded a plane in Atlanta and arrested Hernandez on charges he had helped launder hundreds of thousands of dollars in drug proceeds for the infamous Sinaloa cartel, including several top henchmen to the cartel's infamous boss, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
The charges were an offshoot to the investigation that began with the unprecedented cooperation of Chicago twins Pedro and Margarito Flores, who had risen to become the cartel's largest U.S. distributors and helped authorities build a sweeping conspiracy case against Guzman and dozens of other leaders after their arrest in 2008.
On Friday, Hernandez, 40, stood in a nearly empty federal courtroom in Chicago as U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman sentenced him to 2 1/2 years in prison.
