A 14-year-old boy died early Saturday after he was shot about 1:20 a.m. in the 500 block of South Central Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood, police said. He was identified as Demarco Webster Jr., of the 700 block of South Kedzie Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Demarco was standing on the street when someone in a dark-colored sedan began firing shots. He was shot in the right part of his torso, and he was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center, Chicago police said.
Early Saturday, officers taped off an area outside an apartment building on Central Avenue that is across the street from Columbus Park.
Just after midnight in the Gresham neighborhood, a 25-year-old man was sitting inside a vehicle in the 1200 block of West 79th Street when someone walked up to him and began firing shots, police said. The man was shot in the chest and abdomen.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m. The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Martell Turner, of the 7900 block of South Throop Street.
Minutes earlier, a 30-year-old man was fatally shot just before midnight in the 7800 block of South South Shore Drive in the South Shore neighborhood. Officers found him on the street with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
