It’s not too early for people to start making plans for the money that would be raised by casinos which have not been approved yet.
State Sen. Bill Cunningham (D-Chicago) said 20 percent of the revenue of the city-owned casino in Chicago should go to the city’s police and fire pension funds.
“First of all I am confident that eventually the General Assembly will approve a Chicago casino and what I hope to do with this bill is at the very lease to start a discussion. The City of Chicago is looking at a pension ramp-up in the coming years that is going to come with about a $700 million price tag,” said Cunningham.
Cunningham said the gambling forces came close enough passing legislation the governor wouldn’t sign, that he is comfortable looking at more casinos in the state in the near future.
This sounds great doesn't it? Here's the problem... When the lottery started decades ago it was mandated that the lottery's proceeds would go to education in Illinois BUT in reality that NEVER HAPPENED. What our corrupt elected officials did do was to reduce what the State of Illinois funded education by the amount the lottery put into the education fund... so it was a shell game....
Unless Bill Cunningham drafts a bill that says that any amount of casino money placed into the police/fire pension MAY NOT be deducted from any of the regular contributions made by the City of Chicago... this is nothing more than smoke being blown up your ass.
