For the second time in less than a month, a 23-year-old woman this morning declined a plea bargain that would have sent her to prison for the May crash in Skokie that killed a 9-year-old boy.
She has been charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence.
Prosecutors allege that Hanin Goma, of Skokie, had drugs in her system when she caused a chain-reaction accident that claimed the life of Carter Vo.
The boy’s father said in an interview that prosecutors offered Goma a deal that would have included a 5-year sentence, but neither the state nor the defense would comment on that.
"The defendant chose not to plead today," said Cook County Assistant State’s Atty. Cathy Crowley.
Nhu Vo, of the 4600 block of Madison in Skokie, sat quietly this morning with his wife at the Skokie courthouse. The delay of a chance to face Goma in court left him in tears.
