Two people were arrested and a third is still at large after someone suspected of shooting out an apartment window and breaking into a van fled police, speeding through the Northwest and North sides for an hour before crashing in Roscoe Village, police said.
The saga began in the 4300 block of West Altgeld Street about 8 a.m. and ended about 9:20 a.m. near School Street and Paulina Avenue after the suspects caused two traffic accidents along the way and crashed the Jeep they were in, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. A man and a woman were taken into custody after the crash, along with a .40-caliber handgun, and a second man was still at large, police said.
Police notified officials at Hawthorne Scholastic Academy, 3319 N. Clifton Ave., and students there were kept indoors as police secured the scene and searched for the suspect. Officials were given the all-clear about 11:55 a.m., a Board of Education spokesman said.
